Drawing inspiration from the idea of ‘old school’, Happy Goat Coffee Company’s Rideau & Cumberland location seamlessly blends a modern industrial aesthetic with feelings of nostalgia. Furnishings, found objects, and materiality were used to provide cafe guests with a laid back atmosphere that references years gone by. Vintage lecture chairs, otherwise destined for the dump, were salvaged and given new life as a practical seating solution. Exterior finishes such as brick, corrugated metal, and fencing were integrated into the design as a reference to the exterior elements found in schoolyards.
